Splendid borgo with sea view and not far from the beach
While on my way to Sicily, I had the good fortune to spend one night in this beautiful Calabrian borgo. I would have loved to stay longer, as there is lots to be enjoyed and seen here. This beautifully restored farm attracted my attention for its pristine rooms and modern design. The owners have an eye for detail and quality, and love creating a stylish ambience. That was clear to me from the start!
The farming days of this agriturismo are over, but the farmhouse, built in a style typical of the region, still breathes the atmosphere of days gone by, as it has been restored with respect for its heritage. The owners rebuilt the whole farm from the ground and transformed it into comfortable holiday accommodation. The building has been restored to its original state, including the doors, stairs and windows. The owners (two brothers) have made a career in the graphics industry, and own a studio and printing business that produces exclusive magazines and other printed materials. So you check in at the lobby of the business, which also houses a creative studio. The owners will then take you through the large garden to your accommodation, situated nearby on the premises.
Azure-blue sea and white beaches
The agriturismo lies on the through road toTropea, and the rooms at the front offer views of the sea and the first houses of the little town. The rooms at the back look onto the well-kept garden and hills beyond. Tropea is only a few minutes away by car (2.5 km) and it may well be, the prettiest and most thriving resort in Calabria.
Tropea and good food
This wonderful, ancient little town sits on top of a cliff that runs along behind a silver-white beach beside an azure sea. Tropea boasts lots of cute little shops, bars, and restaurants: over 300 eateries, according to one of the owners. This may be slightly exaggerated, but rest assured: there are many! This owner lives in Tropea himself, so just ask him where to go, he will gladly point out the best restaurants for fish, pasta, or pizza from a wood-fired pizza oven. I took his advice, and went to a restaurant in the hills that serves authentic Calabrian farmer’s fayre, and is mostly frequented by the locals. Highly recommended!
Breakfast in the garden
When the weather is fine you can have breakfast in the garden, in the shade of a grapevine pergola, or in the sunshine, if it’s not too hot. Besides a number of Calabrian specialities, the varied breakfast buffet includes savoury and sweet delights. They are also happy to cook your egg just the way you like it: eggs gathered that very morning by the chef. A lovely start to a relaxing day!.
Modern rooms and suites
The rooms and suites are light and furnished in a modern style with design furniture and luxury bed linen in fabulous colours. Some of the rooms have round beds, which love birds will like, but they are not that suitable for tall people.
Some of the rooms are situated at ground level and have a terrace with garden view, the rooms on the first floor have a small balcony with sea views. All of the rooms have wifi, airco, tv, mini bar, kettle, and a locker.
In short
For anyone looking for a luxurious beach vacation not far away from a lively and fun beach resort, this is the ideal holiday setting. From the airport Lamezia Terme it takes about an hour by car to get there.
